Michael Trimble is running for Portland City Council within DISTRICT 4.

Currently, all of Portland’s City Commissioners are elected at-large; Portlanders vote and elect all candidates from anywhere in the City. However, starting in the November 2024 election, the City of Portland is moving to district-based elections.

What Is A District?

Districts are geographic areas smaller than the city as a whole and only the voters within that geographic area can vote for representatives in their districts. Portlanders will have four new geographic districts with three members elected to represent each district.

There are four districts within the city of Portland:

  • District 1 is the most eastern district.
  • District 2 is the most northern district.
  • District 3 is the inner-Southeast district.
  • District 4 is the western most district.

You can also use the Portland City Council District lookup tool to determine what district your address is located in. To perform an address search:

  1. Go to: How does district-based voting work? page located at the Portland.gov website.
  2. Scroll down the page until you see "Look up your district online" (located about halfway down the page).
  3. Immediately below that section you should see a search field that reads "Find address or place."
  4. Enter your address in the "Find address or place" field.
